Hello OldiesMusicMan here Just curious how do you delete your account from the site?

Post 2 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Saturday, 14-Nov-2015 13:38:32

You don't.
ask an admin to do it, if you ever see one around which you probably won't, and they might or might not.
You can solve the issue by simply not logging in and forget the account was even created.

Post 3 by ApplePeaches (If the zone bbs was a drug, I'd need rehab.) on Sunday, 15-Nov-2015 0:33:47

Yes, unfortunately, you can't. As Lory said, just don't log in.

People have asked this question before and have been told by admins and community leaders basically what has already been said. They won't delete your account, so it's up to you to decide whether to stay or go, but why not stay and try to make some friends?

Post 5 by sia fan bp (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 16-Nov-2015 11:11:17

true, and if you don't mind me asking, why do you want to delete your
account?

Post 6 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 16-Nov-2015 19:02:08

This has been one of the most asked for features on the site over the years, including when I was a CL. I'm not entirely sure why the admins refuse to delete accounts or allow them to be deleted, no reason was ever given when I was on staff. I honestly wish they would allow it, or at least give a reason for why not, because I feel like users should have the right to delete their account. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do to change the issue. Best advice I can offer is to completely clear out your profile so that all of it is blank, and simply stop logging in.

Marilyn, the OP may not wish to share why they want to delete their account. I know a few years ago I damn sure wish I could have, but the reasons I wanted to were very personal. I don't know if that's the case here, but often there are personal issues when someone wishes to completely delete their account.

I agree with you on the reason why you should be able to Alicia.

Post 8 by blbobby (Ooo you're gona like this!) on Tuesday, 17-Nov-2015 14:19:19

What's the difference.

If you can't delete your account, you can't delete it.

their are so many unused accounts here.

you look at people who last logged in 2013 or 2014, and you think... well, just why. if the accounts were deleted, surely not only would the site be more active- but surely faster too?

just some random thoughts

Post 10 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 06-Aug-2016 21:48:14

Nope. If the persons aren't using the server, they aren't taking up any speed resources only storage and even that depends on if they've got lots of private messages stored and brog postings.

Post 11 by Nicky (And I aprove this message.) on Sunday, 07-Aug-2016 1:14:15

I had created an account when I first came on here. For whatever reason I still am unable to figure out, everyone was horrible toard me and were constantly badgering everything I said or did.

A couple of weeks later if that much, I created a second account and no one bothered me or caused any issues with me.

I had a CL ask me why I created a second account since we aren't suppose to have more than one... I explained so they did delete the first account.

Like I said, I never understood why people chose to be so offle toard me on one account and not the other.

LOL!

Post 12 by the oracle (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 07-Aug-2016 5:33:55

well, that's all that needs to be said, i suppose

if they deleted the account, then they can delete accounts

their are just so many users, i guess no one just goes through them all and deletes the inactive ones

Post 13 by forereel (Just posting.) on Sunday, 07-Aug-2016 12:17:20

Admins can do whatever they wish, but if you remove old accounts, you'd need to contact everyone and you'd need to decide if the person really didn't want that account anymore even if they've not logged on for a time.
That requires lots of work.
Some people come back after say a year and log on.
If the accounts aren't causing any problems for the admin, why bother?
Plus, you've got these numbers. Smile.

Post 14 by the oracle (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 07-Aug-2016 13:32:09

still, maybe their should be some kind of limit. don't log in for so long and your account is deleted

look at the people who signed up in 2003 and then last logged in 2004.

you don't honestly think they are still going to need the account?

or how about the few instances where it says an account has been disabled. is it really worth having an account on the site which couldn't even be logged in to, even if the user wanted to?

Post 15 by sia fan bp (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 07-Aug-2016 17:02:24

All good questions. But some people that can't log on to their accounts either have been banned, or just deleted their account. either way, I think you're right, stacy.

Post 17 by the oracle (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 08-Aug-2016 4:42:44

thank you mairlyn.:)

i'm glad you agree with some of what i said on here about the accounts

and for real, you mean the admins keep a record of who's loged in recently and who hasn't?

it could work..

Post 18 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 08-Aug-2016 12:50:09

No, the site does. You've noticed it even.
Smile.

Post 19 by Nicky (And I aprove this message.) on Monday, 08-Aug-2016 14:04:30

Well I just looked up my old account and it has been dis abled, not deleted. My oppologies for that. It has been years ago and I forgotten the dis abled option.

Just wanted to update on my previous reply.

Post 20 by DevilishAnthony (Just go on and agree with me. You know you want to.) on Monday, 08-Aug-2016 14:31:12

These rules were put in place long before my time as staff, but there was a bit of a problem with people wanting an account, then wanting it deleted so they could come back and make a fresh start. Of course, a lot of them manage to do it anyway, under a new account, meanwhile, the user IDs just keep rising.
It's most likely a database issue, but also, wouldn't it look funny if an account was deleted and the person had been very active on the boards? You'd see all these people apparently talking to themselves.

Post 21 by the oracle (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 08-Aug-2016 14:40:42

at post 18, please explain?. i'm lost. what records

Post 22 by Striker (Consider your self warned, i'm creative and offensive like handicap porn.) on Monday, 08-Aug-2016 15:19:54

yeah, back in the day most people wanted a new account because they started a lot of drama and didn't want to deal with the end result of their actions.

Post 23 by Nicky (And I aprove this message.) on Monday, 08-Aug-2016 18:08:04

Ifyou go on the main page and under the heading
community

There is a link labled

Last 100 Logins - Who has logged in recently?

You can see who has logged in recently but if you go to someones profile, it will show you details about that person and when they have logged in and such.

Great way to stock someone if you were crazy like that.

Post 24 by Nicky (And I aprove this message.) on Monday, 08-Aug-2016 18:12:06

For an example

If you look down the list, this is all found on every ones profile.
It will show how many times a person has logged on and the last time they were online. So on so forth.

As an old community leader, I can definitely tell you that the person who mentioned people trying to start new accounts to avoid the consequences of their actions was a very common occurance. Post 11 proved my point rather perfectly in her comments. She probably did something people didn't like, and didn't want to deal with the consequences of her actions, so she created a new account, which unfortunately, the community leaders seem to have allowed her to retain instead of insisting that she go back to her older account. Anyway, that's pretty much why the feature was never put into place.

Post 28 by Nicky (And I aprove this message.) on Monday, 15-Aug-2016 22:04:39

Maddog

Sometimes people are just mean and picks on people for no reason.

I am sure if I had done anything wrong the CL would have done just what you said you would have done but with some reviewing, they had decided to let me have a fresh start.

I had not stirred up trouble,
I had not gotten in to fights with people
I had not harassed people

So assuming I had done anything wrong without even knowing the facts and is unfortunate that you would come to such a conclusion.

I only right this response because I do not have any problems with anyone on the zone , I never get in to arguments or mix myself up in drama. I would rather not want someone to read your post and assume I made trouble and could not handle them so ran away from them. I have not.

Thank you

Good luck finding one. I have 2 accounts because I specifically asked due to my identity being taken if I can make another completely new account and they said no. Was sort of disappointed.
